“What good's the fucking library if it can't tell you the most important shit about life?”

Eight teenagers come to terms with their bodies, their relationships and their futures. Not helped by their parents or their teachers, they fill in for each other and discover that growing up can be far more complicated than they expected.

Wedekind’s volatile yet delicate play about teenage life caused riots when it was first staged. Over a century later, it is still as relevant as ever. Anya Reiss’ contemporary version asks: what hope can young people have for the future when they are shaped by an older generation that doesn't understand them and runs away from answering their most important questions?

Directed by Bruce Adams with BA Theatre students at Middlesex University.
